Established by Hyundai Motor America, Hyundai’s Hope On Wheels is a nonprofit organization focused on funding research and raising awareness to find a cure for childhood cancer. The organization supports pediatric oncology research nationwide through diverse fundraising activities, events, and partnerships.

History of Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels

In 1998, Hyundai and a group of New England-area dealers joined the fight against pediatric cancer by supporting a local initiative to benefit the Jimmy Fund at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This grassroots effort quickly spread nationwide, eventually becoming Hyundai Hope On Wheels (HHOW).

Hyundai Empowers Fight Against Cancer

As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, HHOW is unwavering in its mission to support children battling cancer. HHOW focuses on funding essential research and increasing awareness of childhood cancer. With solid backing from Hyundai Motor America, its vast network of over 830 dealers, and dedicated customers, HHOW benefits from a portion of proceeds from each new vehicle sold. In 2017, HHOW reached a significant milestone, exceeding $130 million in lifetime donations for pediatric cancer research in the United States.

Hyundai’s Hope on Wheels annually organizes “Handprint Ceremonies” at children’s hospitals and medical centers across the United States. At these special events, children fighting cancer or who have triumphed over it place their handprints on a Hyundai vehicle. This act symbolizes their personal and collective struggles in the battle against childhood cancer. The handprints are a poignant reminder of the ongoing need for research and support for pediatric cancer patients and their families.
