Black smoke means there's a combustion problem, and your engine is burning too much fuel. The problem would be caused by a clogged air filter, damaged fuel injectors, or a malfunctioning sensor. Blue exhaust smoke means your engine is burning oil. Oil is leaking into your engine from damaged rings or seals. Thick white smoke means that water is entering the exhaust system.
